Wifey and I have had a lot of fun modifying her Golf. The first modification made was reflashing the car's ECU with software from UPsolute. My friend Jason, who owns Kraut-burner Performance performed the software installation. The flash adds approximately 33 HP at the crank, and 44 ft.lbs. of torque. The throttle response on this car is significantly changed. The lil 1.9L diesel will really get up and go.
I bolted on the second mod on Valentine's Day 2008: 17" VW Arietta wheels to replace the stock 15" wheels. I purchased the wheels with tires locally from a fellow VW enthusiast. Two of them were refinished, and very closely matched the factory finish but I put the refinished wheels on the same side of the car just to be safe. As fate would have it, Wifey was hit by some jackass driving a large pickup truck, and the factory finished wheels made their way to get refinished shortly thereafter.
Next came some of the funnest mods to date. An aftermarket fog light kit from ECS Tuning, complete with European light switch. The same night the fogs were installed, a Pioneer AVIC F700BT head unit was also installed. It sounds great, and it's very convenient to have and use the GPS navigation.
Something was still wrong with the car, so to speak. It was WAY too damn tall. An adult male's fist could fit between the top of the tire and the bottom of the wheel wells. This was unacceptable! A set of B+G RS coilover suspension was installed, dropping the front of the car 2", and the rear approximately 2.5". The ride is comfortable, though some of Wifey's friends have complained, and it looks damn-good. To keep the TDI oilpan safe at this ride height, a Diesel Geek Skidplate was installed.
Last, but not least, unless I've forgotten something, is the Thule roof rack. It looks good, and it will be a very convenient and reliable way to get our bikes to/from River Legacy, and other parks, when weather permits.
Pics are coming soon!
